After a lot of experimentation, Peggy has been producing
crystalline glazes for the past 3 years. This unique and
difficult technique produces gem-like formations in a glassy
background. Crystals are formed by reproducing a phenomena
similar to the natural occurrence of frost on a window, or
crystals in rock formation. Using a complex firing schedule of
specific heating, cooling and soaking, crystals are manipulated
to grow in different sizes, shapes and numbers. The glaze
contains a high level of zinc, and a low level of alumina. The
result is a stunning, rarely seen glaze.
